Tales from the Farm February 2024

February 6, 2024

Happy mid-winter!

We have officially passed the halfway point of the season when the rejuvenation energy of the winter starts to shift into the arrival of the energy of initiation and reinvention.  After a month of catching up on trade publications, pleasure reading, completing our annual business retreat and quiet nights we are ready for the momentum of the upcoming season and every extra minute of daylight we get each day.

We have so many new subscribers this year we want to take a moment to WELCOME you to our farm and journey!  Just so you know, we typically send out one newsletter per month for 11 months...we take January off. However, in February we begin our Meat Share Sales campaign so you may recieve a few more emails during that time.  Even if you have only experienced the farm as a farmstay guest...please read through our marketing info...you may realize that our meat is easier to access than you think or it may give you ideas about buying meat from a farmer in your neck of the woods :-)

To all the loyal readers, meat customers and farmstay-ers....thank YOU so much for your continued support and interest in REAL food, REAL people and REAL experiences.  Believe it or not, this is our 5th year producing meat, selling cattle and hosting the farmstay...HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to US!  Thanks to all of YOU for making this farm and journey a success.  YOU have been part of the journey and now YOU are part of the legacy.

All the animals are doing well this mild winter.  Elizabeth joked last week that "it seems like we are entering our 10th month of mud season!"  Enough with the mud already!  The cows are eating lots of hay, hanging out in the woods when the weather is bad and loafing around in the sun when it decides to shine.  Eggs have been fairly abundant (except for cold days) and such a welcome fresh treat from the farm when nothing else seems fresh.  We decided to raise our replacement layers over the winter so they are in the barn staying warm under a heat lamp.  They will be ready to lay when the grass is green and abundant!

OK! I know everyone is anxiously awaiting 2024 Meat Share sales to open up so I'll tell you what to expect...this year we will begin selling shares on February 15th (so check your inboxes) and close sales on March 15th or until they are sold out.  If you are new to buying shares...don't worry...we will provide you with lots of info in the emails.  You will recieve 4 emails during that time...please be patient and try not to unsubscribe during our campaign. We love the privilege of growing food for you SO make room in your freezers and get ready to have high welfare, nutrient dense food right at your fingertips for healthy, delicious and convenient meals throughout the year.

"Together let us move from a space of restoration to a place of connection, celebration and exploration."         -Karen L. Culpepper

What is a Farm Share?

A Farm Share directly connects farmers to consumers and consumers to their food.

  • YOU get to invest directly into the farm by owning part of the animals that provide you food.
  • YOU create a local economy and community.
  • YOU benefit from discount/ bulk prices.
  • YOU order it and we raise it.
  • FARMER only grows what is sold.
  • FARMER has working capital pre-season.
  • FARMER can grow how and what customers want.
  • ALL are nourishing a relationship between humans, animals and the soil.

Please remember that you are asking us to grow your food. You will need to order now. You may need extra freezer space. Your shopping budget will be spent up front for a large portion of the years meat. Dinner has never been easier when you just have to go to the freezer to thaw the meat you'd like to eat and grab a few fresh veggies from the garden, a Farmer's Market or the grocery.
